R.M.P Marine engine

Good afternoon,

We have recently taken in a stationary engine for refurbishment and restoration from one of out customers.

The engine plate states that it is a "R.M.P Minor Mark 6 Marine and auxiliary small power unit" which is currently being used to drive a Lister water pump.

If anyone has any information on this engine it would be greatly appreciated.

I may be off course as there are no pics but it may just be a Ransomes engine you have there. If correct I am thinking its a small unit (as a lister pump would require) and was also found in marine applications and ,for me, found in lawn mowers where I found one many moons ago.

I dont have any pics or information but on fleabay right now 251532894120 will find you an australian seller (nothing to do with me) with a maunal for the lawnmower version...

I was going to post a couple of pictures along with my post for reference but due to being a new member picture upload is apparently restricted for 7 days.

Looking at the link to the fleabay ad you posted the Ransomes engine and the "R.M.P" engine bear no resemblance.

If I can find a way to get some pictures up I will do.

R.M.P. could be R.M.Parkinson of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, who made a marine engine called the "Super Minor" in the late 1940's, early 1950's. Parkinson, a noted engineer, had worked at Rolls Royce and Rotol Ltd before forming his own business, and was particularly interested in all types of marine propulsion. Surviving engines are uncommon, but one or two smallish two-strokes are known to exist.
