mobile pumping set
Some time back, i built a trailer to mount my 3.5/1 on with two high volume water pumps, well i got it all together and it looked like this
the suspension units i used were ex caravan chassis units, rated to around 15cwt, which is a little more than the weight of this setup, however, they are old, and as these units age the torsion unit becomes less ductile, and prone to sagging, causings a characteristic camber on the wheels, or "lying-in".
about a year or two ago, i acquired a leaf sprung axle for 5.5" pcd wheels, one stub end was bent, which i didnt realise when i bought it, so this would have to be replaced, so i decided to go the whole hog and make a new axle, using the hubs, brakes and springs from the old axle.
these are the half shafts
they are solid steel and very heavy! i'll file the square section edges to fit inside of 50mm box section. it'll get welded up once i take the back plates off the old axle.
Cheers.

Re: mobile pumping set
once the axle is made, i'll replace the independant units on the pumping set, and also make the whole thing a little narrower too, as its too wide and ungainly at present, its currently 72" wide, hopefully i'll get that down to less than 60"
Cheers.

I Like it, You could put a big fire out when that starts pumping.
Good luck with the trailer re build.

Re: mobile pumping set
no kidding paul, it has two 1.5" outlets, fair enough i'm running at 1/3 of the rated speed of the monopumps, but it still shifts some serious water
cheers.

Re: mobile pumping set
There some great pumps, you using one as a circulation pump?

Re: mobile pumping set
yeah steve, i've altered the belt arrangement since then, the recirculation pump runs slower than the main pump as it is only supplying a 1" pipe on the engine, if you look at the older thread i created, it shows the pipework off better,
the main pump will be running around 750, but its rated to 1500rpm.
Cheers.

Re: mobile pumping set
owing to some detail changes to the twin axle trailer i'm building, this set is now going to be fitted with heavy duty 10" wheels, which are surplus from the twin axle project.
Hopefully going to make some progress on both projects this weekend.
Cheers.
