1940 Lister D
Hi all,
I collected my first real stationary engine last night (usually play with wilescos and mamods). it doesnt run yet, but with a bit of tlc it may be running soon. theres no spark at all and the carb was seized up but fixed that now, just need that all important spark. Any ideas on this?. also how do i put pictures on, do they need to be on a host site?

Hello,
lets tackle the simple bit, to host a picture on the site, you need to click the button that looks like a computer screen with a floppy in front, which is above the Message box, If you haven't got a account create one, browse to the image, then upload, then copy the code thats starts, [img] then paste it into you message, To be Honest I prefer photobucket.
On the Mag, I could be something simple as the points needing a clean, Condenser duff, the magnetism could be gone or the coils open circuit. if you got a multi meter you can check the connectivity between the HT lead and the Mag casing, and check the resistance of the primary windings.

Re: 1940 Lister D
Hi,
I would start exactly as Steve as said, clean the points and gap at about 10 - 12 though, then clean plug and gap at about 20 though. Then try for spark again. If you have a D16 plug, they tend to fail so could just be that. If it is the Condenser you will normally get a spark but very yellow.
Hope this helps
regards
Mart.

testing coil
Hi there,
Thanks for the advice. I decided to work on it today but to no avail. I,ve checked the points, no probs, checked the circuit is good, no probs. It seems to be pretty much magnetized. Been reading on the net how to check the condenser, this could be faulty. Does anyone know if i should get a reading from the coil? from the wire condenser side to the wire that gets clamped onto the body i get a reading, but from wire to the brass knob on the coil, nothing, is this right?. i replaced the ht lead too, the plug is a ngk a6 or ab6, i cant remember which and its too dark to go and check, will do tomoro.
