dating a petter

from what i can make out on the badly faded plate, my engine number is 527139 and it is a type A1

but from the data on this page [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that engine number would make it an AW series 2?

can anyone offer any advice?

Nate, Paul is the best person to date the engine as he's well into his Petter's. I can just find the same as you and date it to 1945-1947.

Send a couple of pics to him and he will be able to tell you the exact date it was made and who it was first sold to.

Going by the book that i have for petters your engine is an A1 series III which were made from 1945 - 1947 with engine numbers starting with 500000 - 533761. They also made the W1 range as well, which if im right in saying they were the water cooled version.
