"The Arun" saw bench

just picked this up from ebay. i know nothing about it, and not been able to find anything thru google either. if anyone can give me any more info on this i'd be very interested.

it's quite tidy, although could do with repainting at some point, and the paint is peeling off at the bottom thanks to the rust that lies beneath. for now, it's going to get sharpened and used to fill my log shed ready for the winter. it might get beautified and taken to a rally or two next year, but i suspect that it wouldn't be able to be run due to the worrying lack of safety guards!

as for going to shows with it,you will definitely need a guard on it,health and safety shut a feller down at THE GREAT DORSET STEAM FAIR last year..
hes been taking it to the show for years,its an AMANCO run saw bench...now hes put a guard on it and there much happier..
when you think back to the old days not a lot of stuff had guards on it,but in this day and age if its not got on you cant use it..
good luck with finding some info about it,you mite be lucky sending a photo to the stationary engine mag and asking if anyone has any info on it

yes, it's heavy! i can just about pick up one side to shove a sack trolley under. i'd guess it's gotta be nudging 1/4 ton

Smart looking saw, make a great working exhibit at a show apart from the H&S guy turning white and pulling his hair out If you paint it up it would look well with a few splashes of red paint around the blade, and tell everyone that's why the last owner had to sell it

All joking apart you take care using it as they don't give you a second chance!

what sort of guard would H&S need it to have? a retractable blade cover like a hand held circ saw has? i'm struggling to think of another way you could have a guard on it that wouldn't interfere with operation

Thanks for sharing that bud, looks a well built bit of tackle.

Can you make something like the small table top saws, so that when you push the wood against it it lifts the guard to let the log go into the blade and drop again when youve pulled the log away.

Id also make it so that it 'clamps' to the top so you dont have to spoil the top by drilling etc.

As Stu says, be carefull when using it without a guard, you wont get 10% of a pair of gloves if you take a finger of. Its a default thing gloves come with 10 fingers.

there was a small saw bench on eBay the other day.....
i think it was on there before but never sold..they seem to be getting very popular nowadays..
only thing is there very heavy,but i guess they had to be so they didn't tip over if they weren't bolted down while sawing..

Good sawbench that is! There was one for sale at Astle park last year and I got one of Ebay about a year ago.
