Well I'm picking another Wolseley up today, I did buy it for spares but I'll have a good look at it first and I might even see if I can get it running. I know theres a few bits missing e.g. the mag so I'll work out the costs first but at the grand sum of £5.55 for the engine I do have a little bit to play with before it gets to expensive to rebuild.

All went well with the collection, turned out to be a WD2 but no sign of the missing parts. The seller is moving so might find them when he clears the rest of his garage out. The engine belonged to the sellers father who used it to run a small generator to provide lights in a static caravan he lived in. Sadly his father has now passed away and the seller doesn't know why the head was removed and some of the other parts were used for another WD he had, but the seller can remember seeing what he thinks is the mag in the garage but it was a few years ago and can't remember what he did with it so fingers crossed it turns up.

Thats about the same I paid for my wd2 Very Happy, lovely engine and at that price a cost of a magneto wouldn't tip the budget out weighing the cost of the engine, if he can find it all the better, would be worth getting it looked out if its been left for a while.

Have fun!

Cheers Steve

Steve the engine turns freely and can't see anything visably wrong with it, the seller said his fater used to like to tinker and may have just took the head off to have a look. Do you know which mag is used on this or will it just be the same as the mag on my WD8. My mate has one the same but his is stored at a farm and it would save me a 60 mile round trip if I can find the answer here Laughing
It strange how things hold memories, I think the seller was sad to see it go, he told me of a few stories about this engine and others his father owned, one tale was how he can remember one cold night his dad going outside and putting snow in the hopper as the water supply had frozen up and they need to keep it running as it kept the lights on. He told me of another engine he sold a few years back and he thought it was a diesel, two cylinder with spoked twin flywheels, it had a big generator with it, I think he must have been mistaken about it being a twin and it was a CS, any thoughts as he was adamant it was a twin???

I know I forgot you still have 2 I need sent up, I'll phone you in the next day or two and sort it out.

Mike not sure what I'll do with this Wolseley yet but if I decide to scrap it I sort out what you need, TBH it looks to good to scrap so I might just try the mag of my WD8 and see what it runs like first.

Mike, I know it's older the the WD8 I have it's just why was the head pulled off that is concerning me, it looks ok, it is in better condition in the bore then mine so I'll see if I can get it running and take it from there, I know to replace the mag will cost a few quid so before I shell out for one I want to make sure the rest of the engine is ok. Think I'll be looking for help when it comes to fitting the mag as before I normally take one of I mark everything.

Stu..
it could be that the head was off due to head gasket problems or valve probs..
it wont take much to sort it out, with all your experience..

That is a good buy and a relatively easy sort.

I am sure the mag is type A941. Not too hard to get. Other missing parts are often on Ebay.

Contact Kenny Williams for a mag he usually has a couple he may sell.

I am sure I have a valve cover if you want one, not original but steel plate.

I also have a instruction manual for it if you want it.

Bill, thanks for the info, I'll Pm you about prices.

I have noticed that WD's arn't making good money at present so think it could be something to hold on to till the market picks up. Yet parts are still making good money so I think people are repairing rather then buying complete engines.
