work comenced today on EV1
I decided to start stripping the ev1 apart mainly to give me something to do but the plan is a full cosmetic restoration as it runs fine and inspected the mains and they look in good condition too and plenty of suction. So just a cosmetic one this time .
Started to strip it apart just need to mark the ignition timing so i know where it goes back , cant seem to find the timing marks on the flywheels so il make some on the crank sprocket myself . and then i can get the grinder out with the wire brush head and the sanding disc's and hopefully get some red oxide applied to the block by tomorrow.
there is a fibre seal on each end of the mains where would i get some material like this from ?
regards , matt

Getting on well Matt, looks to be an easy restore if everything is in good working order.

That fibre seal looks like normal 1/2 gland packing Matt, although I am not sure.
Should be able to get gland packing in any place that sells pump spares.
Cheers
Mart.

Re: work comenced today on EV1
assembled the timber together for the trolley today just needs sanding down as you may notice the glue stains :embarrassed: Then oiling and the axles made . then i can start by assembling the sump and the block onto the trolley .:yahoo: ...surpose next step would be to start cleaning down some other parts to paint ....
a few pictures :
decided to try and do the joints with a old style teqnique with pins , there is 4 screws only to hold the axles spacers on , but will not be seen .
regards , matt

to me paint is paint they last better with a good coat of it on
well apart from emullsions they dont work so good on metals , they tend to go a rusty colour and fast
my neighbour painted a home made trailer with it looked good for a week in the summer , then it rained half washed onto his tarmac drive , the next day the rest wwas rusty brown white emmulsion , his drive is still with a 2 ft wide grey snake down the middle 2 years later
i find that cast wheels look better with a satin or semi gloss topcoat car spray type mine still rust free 2 years on the cast seams to breath better through it than a high gloss topcoat THATS MY OPINION ANYWAY
THANKS KEV

Re: work comenced today on EV1
Coming along well Matt, you might get a rally out of it this year the rate your working I do like the no screw trolley, makes it look a better job and I don't think many will put there heads under it to see the screws in the axle
Keep up the good work.

Re: work comenced today on EV1
ipdate ..... sanded the trolley down and now i have put 2 coats of finishing oil on just waiting till morning and can wipe down with some scotchbrite and then apply the top coats .
went to pick up some round bar for the axels 30 mm but will be having the ends turned down to 22mm to fit in the wheels i have got with .5 of a mm clearance . just need to get that done and plates welded on , wheels need to be cleaned and painted and then assembled so its all go at the moment .

Nice to see your making progress again Matt.
Neville I'd love a Bamford but there a bloody heavy engine to be pulling about, I know everyman and his dog has a D, at least you'll not hurt yourself as much moving it around. Only thing to do is trailer mount it when your the wrong side of 35
