I've got my Wolseley WD8 finished at last, but now I can't find the starting handle has anyone got an ideas on how I could get one or even make one as I'm stuck without it. I tried to start it on the flywheel but just about finished myself off doing it that way. The handle I have for my WD2 won't fit as it's to small.
Any help or ideas greatly accepted.

Could you not just belt start it off your other engine for now or at least untill you source another starting handle

Yes Abes I think that's the only way of doing it for now, hopefully the little BSA will do it or if not I'll have to go along the lock up and get another engine that's a runner.

You know the part of wd2 handle that goes on shaft .... ? copy the cut outs onto some card or thick paper ... cornflake box etc ... and the get a piece of tube that will fit over wd8 shaft which the shaft size is 1 1/2 . and transfer the patern of wd2 onto that ... and cut it out and grind etc to suit so fits over the starting pin ok .... then either make a complete handle or get a wd2 handle and cut the starting dog off and weld the new fabricated one on there .... hey presto a wd8 handle ! Very Happy

Matt good idea but I was thinking of some way of doing it a bit quicker so I can see if it runs and how it sounds.
Mike if you can have a look it would be great even just as a loan for now till I get sorted.

Well after trying to start my little BSA so I could belt it to the Wolseley to start that, the BSA just didn't want to start, strange as it was running fine when I put it away it has a good spark but nothing so rather then mess about to much I decided to have a go at starting the Lister G, and low and behold I found the Wolseley handle with the G handle. Well seeing as the handle was in my hand I gave the G a swing and yes she fired up first time. Very Happy not bad for her sitting 10 months since last ran.
So the I turned my attention to the WD turned on the fuel, tickled it a bit swung it nothing, took the plug out checked the spark, fine put a drop of petrol down the plug hole, plug back in swung it and away she went. Not running to good at first but then she started to settle down, the only thing is there's petrol coming out the hole in the bottom of the carb so don't know what's wrong with that? As it was getting late I decided to turn it off and I'll have a look when I have more time and it's not getting dark. Just to be silly before I covered it back up I put the cover back on it I turned the fuel back on and spun it over by hand on the flywheel a yes it started, first time I ever hand an engine start like that so very happy. cheers cheers cheers

If anyone has any tips on fine tuning a WD8 I'd like to hear from them.

Also I no longer need a starting handle as I found mine. Very Happy

I'll post some pics as soon as I get time and remember to take my camera out with me, I might also try a short video if I can figure out how to do it with my camera.

i dont think you can fine tune wd's only thing you can do is advance / retard the mag ... otherwise than that nothing you can do stu .

for some fuel to be leaking there has got to be a restriction somewhere causing to much fuel to back up and pi** out . or too much fuel getting in due to worn jets etc .

Don't know what the Wolseley carb is like but does it have a float valve? If it does then it's probably sticking and allowing the carb to flood.

Dan I've a few problem with it at present so I started a new thread, I'm going to strip the carb again and see if I can spot anything or I may swap it for the carb on my WD2 to see how it then runs.
The engine was a none runner when I bought it and the whole fuel system was filled with rust out of the tank so it could be another bit of rust is causing the float to stick, the tank is clean now but there might have been rust in the pipes etc.
