Entrants for Miss August,

Post by RAB on Tue Jul 03 2012, 17:46

Hi all,

Anyone who has a picture that they wish to put forward for the August, please post it here and we can have a vote on it. If i remember to put the vote up this time,

It can also be an implement that is driven by an engine if you wish ie, a water pump, corn crusher and that type of thing.

Over the last few months weve had a few more new members join, It would be nice to see some of the engines or engine displays that you have got so please feel free to post and we look forward to seeing your stuff.

I know posting a pic here is not the easiest so i have posted a link on how to post pics below:-

http://www.stationaryengineforum.net/t2492-step-by-step-photo-upload

Hope thats of use to all.

Paul

Hi all,

When you post a pic for entry, could you please make sure its in focus and the correct way up please.

If not it wont be used, as i dont have the time to sort it out at the momment, everyone is busy with one thing and another so your help with this would be much appreciated,

Many thanks,
Paul

Kev , putting it rather bluntly that if you submit pictures that are not clear and out of focus they will not be submitted for the competition !... Try using a camera rather than a phone if that is what you are doing .

thanks , matt

Have you tried a tripod? A lot of digi cams don't 'click' when you click them, so you think it's taken the pic and start to move, then it takes it and you're left with a blur...

Failing that, I'll have a look through my bag of cameras (!) and I'm sure I can come up with something better than that if you're interested? It won't be an awful lot of money, and I'll post too - pm me if you want me to have a look.

BUGGER! Can't believe I left the cosmic snail in the background! Thought I'd moved him out of shot.

Also, the sun's reflecting of the gloss paint, might wheel her out again & take a few more later.

Well we had a nice day yesterday, it's gone all horrible again today. Maybe I should wheel her out again & try for an ultimate pic. Although there is one of mine I'm happy with.

Are we supposed to PM these pics to someone, for calendar & for forum featured engines??? Or are we supposed to pick which one we think is best & submit that???

Also, are they OK hosted on Photobucket, or would you rather they were uploaded as a file? I can email them direct from my phone, if needs be. I haven't tried accessing the forum on my phone yet though, not sure if I could upload that way.

It's best if you pick your best picture and post that. Paul will only pick one to put forward for the forum header so it might be worth taking one good shot and sticking with that one.

Ruston Hornsby 1HR Entrant

Post by glowes3 on Tue Jul 24 2012, 11:17

There's something about this engine you need to know - while it's pleasing on the eye, it is not pleasing to start. Thought I should be honest about that - in fact its a mongrel to start. Of course the 1HR is a diesel so it comes with good compression but we also had the head machined and the valves reseated so the compression is so good we put a crank handle on both sides with two people turning. If it doesn't start in a few turns over compression then we stop to pant. I think it could also have to do with the wear in the skew gear and cam lob that may muck the timing up a bit. Once it is started it runs sweet.
My point is..... if you had to start it yourself you may think twice about giving it your vote.
Any tips on these engines would be welcome too!!!!!!!

Regards Graeme

Graeme the running of the engine has nothing to do with the voting for header pic of the month, this is for a picture of an engine that's pleasing to the eye and one that looks good at the top of the forum.
I think if I had an engine that difficult to start I'd use a belt and donkey engine to save all the hard work. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well I'm leaving this to Rab to see what he wants to do with this months header pic. The reason being is for you to select ONE picture of an engine not multiples, he might delete some of your pics or he might delete them all, I'll leave the decision up to him. It might be best if anyone has more then one pic of the same engine edit them yourself so you pick the best to vote on.
