Lister diesel crank case filling with fuel
Hi all,
I have a Lister LR2 (or SR2, not sure which). The oil level is steadily rising in the crank case so fuel is getting in there somehow. I have checked the obvious suspects, lift pump diaphragm, fuel lines and unions going to the injector pumps, HP fuel lines and unions going from the pumps to the injectors, and the leak off lines from the injectors. I can't see any fuel leaking anywhere so I am kind of stuck. The last possibility that I can think of is that fuel is leaking out of the bottom of the injector pumps and onto the camshaft. Trouble is you can't open the crank case door while the engine is running to check this. I was wondering whether this was a known fault with this engine and someone might be able to say "I know what it is!".
Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Lister diesel crank case filling with fuel
I've always found that if diesel is leaking that much into the sump it has to be a cracked pipe (internal) lift pump or fuel pump, if you've checked everything else apart for the fuel pump it must be the seal in the end of the pump that's leaking. Sorry can't help anymore then that and good luck with sorting it. Maybe another member who's had this type of engine can help you more then myself.

Thanks for that Stu. Would you be able to suggest where I could get reconditioned injector pumps from?

Re: Lister diesel crank case filling with fuel
You'd be best just putting it into a fuel injection specialist and getting the seal replaced a lot cheap as a recon pump will be £200+. Try looking in the yellow pages or a search on google to see what you find local.
