Post by robint on Thu Oct 11 2012, 19:30

Hi does anyone know of the origin of the brass Nipple and nut system with a cone seat used to connect 1/4 cu tube to petrol/carburetter. The nipplte was soldered or brazed onto the cu tube. Its a common system but I cant find what its called or where it comes form or what standard its made to?
Ive got a pic but i cant see how to post the pic on this msg
cheers

Thanx Hob
That fits the bill perfectly. I am new to this forum so still finding my way round.

But for me it still begs the question, where did this type of fitting originate from? Is there any standard. What is it officially called? "Solder nut and nipple?". I would called it a cone seat fitting. But there are different angles 37deg,(JIC) 45 deg (SAE). Maybe it was inherited from america?
There are, after all, many different types of fittings for joining pipes and tubes (whats the difference)

Screwed cone seat nipples (as per your old gas fire)
Flare fitting (SAE) typical on brake pipes (why not tubes?)
Compression
Fibre/copper washer fittings (solid and rolled)
Bullnose
Screwed
etc

Just curious
