Dynamo Help
Hi, can anyone help me i have a dynamo with 2 big Thick wires and 2 little thin wires coming out of it, and i think i need to polarise it, can any help with what to do next.Im try to make a generator unit.

depending how old it is the wires may be asbestos coated ..........be aware

sounds like you have a dyno starter! If so, the 2 thick wires make it turn like a starter motor, then the engine turn it when it starts charging the battery with the 2 small wires.

so not 2 field wires and the 2 shunt wires then .....?

I need to know where all the wires go as there are no markings.

try take a end cap off and see where the wires go ... you might / should have 2 wires going to brushes / pick ups and 2 going to the field , looks like coils of wire on the casing . If i am right you convect 1 brush and 1 field together so you go 2 pairs and that would be where you would take you pick up from with a tester etc ....
Don't quote me on this as i don't want you to be Burnt like a small crunchy chip !
Thats what i got told by a chap in the past on another forum and he knew his motors and Genny's

Yep that is a fair one, only have a small amount of experience on dynamo's TBH, but the last one I dealt with was a dyno starter and fitted the description
