Just fitted the barrel and flywheel today, its starting to look like an engine now. Next job will be making a head gasket.wx11 progress Pictur34 I have both the bronze and the ally head for it, not sure which one to use, Im not certain but I think the bronze head was used on the later ones?

Very nice, I've always liked these. Glad to see you're keeping a log on this forum. They're very helpful here & you've already met the Villiers specialist Kev.

Watching with interest.

(Oh yes, & welcome to the forum cheers )

try keeping this engines project in one consecutive posting so you and us can all follow on with the help ect mate
as if you return to original posting
ive asked about what head your has for gaskets and i give you an idea of age of each style without the dates
what does your cylinder alloy block have stamped onto it letters and numbers " i can see WAH WHATS ON THE OTHE HALF 1234WAH
so if you want it correct give me the numbers to help you
WHICH WAY ROUND DID YOU PUT THE GEOGEON PIN IN ??as one way is wrong and could work out and smash into the sump to piston top gallorys affraid
also what is the piston made of and is it flat on the bottom or notches cut out also with way round have you put the piston back in as it will go in 2 ways round but only one is correct mate

The piston is iron with the wedge shaped top, no cut aways in the piston skirt. No numbers visible on the heads or barells( i have 2 of each) engine number is WAH2171. piston in so that "ramp" goes down to exhaust port. head will only fit with plug above the exhaust port,as Im sure you know the other way round and the piston hits it. Very Happy

well spotted ,people do miss that one flat side of slope to sparkplug hole
the blindheads its easy done on as you gant see from the top and engine will turn over until plug goes in
gaskets
you need thin paper type for the block to bore with greese or silacone gasket compound green, red hallamar or any none curing compound will not last very long as the 2 stoked petrol fuel will wash it out
top head will need around 2mm graphite paper /exhurst type gasket paper same as will need for the exhurst to head and sump joints ect
i do have some sheet left ,mabe a couple of exhurst gaskets ready made ??if not used on the last wx11 engine
kev

also do you have the pulley it has the crank handle starter slit in the pulley
sorry to say but if you do the flywheel will have to come off again as the pulley is bolted on from the back of flywheel mate
kev

also what is the bore of the cylinder 67mm or ?? stroke will be 70mm what ever the bore

I do have the pulley, but it also has a small brass starter pulley that bolts on the centre of the mag on the other side , I think for wrapping a rope round.. I thought I would use this one ( it sticks out thru the centre of the copper magneto cover)

it needs the big pulley on for ballance of engine mate
also it stops the flywheel from flying if so easy as i makes the nut thats on the flywheel now captive inbetween the pulley and flywheel mate
it is also alot easyer to start them on the flywheel side buy rope ,as your trying to lift the flywheel and pulleys weight up
instead of it trying to flip over on its back from the flywheel side
also it will move the timing out of line more often ,pulling from the magneto side small pulley ,as they are keyless shaft onto crank ,so if not very tight and
if your very looky indead the timing wont move Laughing ive done loads of villiers over time and they nearly all move of the timing for a while until the settle in Laughing usually when you get a flooding from carb and the you pull start it and it back fires theres your timing gone out a few degrees mate

Thing thats holding me up is that the captive nut in the mag flywheel has a duff thread, and I dont want to force it on and wreck the thread on the end of the crank, so Im really in the market for a new flywheel, i'd try and re-tap it but its a funny size( 9/16 20tpi) and ive not got one that size.

That is a bit of a problem which way to do it. Checking the size and thread pitch the nearest I can see is 9/16 18tpi = UNF.

measured it with thread guages, definitely 20tpi, a mate sugested its cycle thread, but I think its going to be easier to look out for another flywheel!

dont forget the tappered crankshaft will have to match the taper on the flywheel and also make sure that the new flywheel goes on to the back far enough
otherwise you aint going to get a strong impulse to make the spark
