thanks chris .

I need to pick your brain about the igniter gasket that does not seal even though its the one that you supplied to Steve .... I assume the igniter face is flat ...

matt
so youve been to the midlands area again then mate
the ignitor should be machined to a flat finish when they were new mate
the ignitor gaskets are the weak point in my eyes on the 2-4hp amancos, if the timing or exhurst opening time is out to much pop goes the ignitor gasket every time, ive done it and seen and heard of others doing it too
happy flicking

no it doesnt run but it did a while ago .

not too much wrong with it though .

Leaking gasket joint sorted now but i have found i have a air leak from the igniter shaft now , need to get that sealed , and sort out the fuel line too , oh and the bolt for the adjuster for valve timing needs to be replaced and someone has put a very thick metric locknut on Mad

so just a few bits , oh and on plus side the timing is correct .

it my just be a bit of rusting or grit got in the valve set type seal on the amanco ignitor ,ive had 2 leaky ones before firing them up again ,but after 5-15mins all good and sealing up again Laughing
or just needs the out side tripping parts moving up to take some play out, other than that its the mica tube and /or washers worn or breaking/splitting with age , and letting the shaft go off line to the valve type seal, but even i found a total rebuild of the ignitor an easy job to do as long as the casting is still sound and round .

Kev there is no end float and spring looks New and so does the mica. I think it's the taper where it seals as it is ridged so not creating a good enough seal in my opinion.

so it needs lapping in like a valve to the seat on a cylinder head then mate
or as abouve maybe just needs running in as the temps change the seat seals back in better or just looses the fowling from standing idle awway
kev

you mean lap the shaft into the igniter body Shocked

but did notice when you turn over there is alot of compression so it might fire up and settle in as you say .

today have been having a play after work .

Set the timing so the striker is not hitting on the anvil and set the timing its tripping around 10 - 5 before TDC so should be fine there as not working it so retarded a little wont hurt it .

The fuel pipe was staring at me with that gastly tap on there , so i made a new fuel line , lucky i had a 1/4 NPT to 1/4 compression fitting in stock and some pipe .

knocked up a quick pipe but without a non return valve for now as should run without one as i know of people to run them without .

before adjustment

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0128_zps70756acc

after the adjustment

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0149_zpsf131aafa

the new fuel line

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0145_zpse80e82ee

i did notice the fuel tank has no drain tap as such so , i think i will have to weld a steel fitting into the tank and fit a 1/4" drain tap .

Without having a fuel drain tap i decided i needed to get the tank out from under the base , so i lifted the engine off, but apon lifting the engine of the trolley and axles were all held together through the bolts that held the engine onto the timber decided to collapse onto the floor  Shocked 2 of the cross member had a split in the so only good as firewood .

now engine is on a temporary frame i knocked up to move it around

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0151_zps31832811

this is a handy thing , but needs modifying , thing instead of having forks i will have a bed with some boards on the top  so could act as a workbench as well and place a prop under it .

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0153_zps53899b4f

fuel tank and the fitting that i will be welding into the bottom with a drain plug , i have already light the fuel tank so it will not explode while welding .
But was full of brown petrol and even a piece of oxidised copper pipe in the bottom , will give a good clean when have the plug in place .

oh no not again ... Amanco chore boy DSC_0156_zps0f1dd71e

was speaking to Abes last night about making a trolley ... didnt realise it would quite be this soon Embarassed

There seems to be some issue with all these engines ending up at your front door Matt??

I would love to have the same issue but the wife still says no to using the kitchen worktops and my shed is full - but thankfully you guys keep the spirit of healthy collecting going and reading your stories makes me, and no doubt all the rest on the forum, smile! Keep it up - and good luck with the trolley Smile

hmmm 3/8 , now i got a fitting that i can use to go from 1/4 npt from carb to a compression olive fitting for 3/8 pipe , all i would need is a piece of 3/8 pipe no more than a foot .

Could you let me know where you can get from ? or get me one and il settle up with you .

3/8 is bsp thread so what you would need is a 3/8 male to 10mm compression fitting then go from there to the tank and into the tank that way OOooooorrrrrr go for a 3/8bsp to 1/4 compression, unless the fuel pipe is 5/16. Plus you have all the 3/8 to metric sizes.

I can do some 10mm pipe and fittings to use, and I have a 3/8 clack valve that should do the job.
