Depends on what colour your top coat is, if using a dark top coat it should be ok but a light top coat you'll need to use a white or grey primer. The red oxide will make any top coat a slightly darker shade.

I wonder how it would go to powdercoat engine parts.
Think I might try that on Lister D No2.

But what colour? Black? Standard Green?

"powder coating around my way is very dear"

I have an advantage here, as I run a couple of coatings companies, one doing powdercoating on a large scale. So maybe a small "homer" ?

For many such companies, the small quantities like we have are not very convenient, so they (& we) price them high. If they go elsewhere, we lost little and if we get the job then the inconvenience of such a small job might pay. Most of our orders are measured in tonnes, and capacity is 100 tonnes a week.

But powdercoating is not a coating product as such, its a method of application. Many coatings can be applied by powder coating, such as nylon, polyester, polyurethane, epoxy, plastic, etc.
I was thinking to use polyester for Lister D #2.
