Yeah, that's an easy one, nip them down evenly as you would any head, then evenly do all five FT using either a normal 3/8 drive rachet or a small breaker barlr90 wrote:Can anyone advise cylinder head torque setting for wolesley WD8 Please?
No need to get too hung up on torque settings with these engines

The manual simply says:
When replacing the cylinder head or hopper see that
it seats properly and tighten down the nuts progres-
sively a little at a time in order to guard against distor-
toin.
hope that helps, I have recently restored a wd8 so if you get stuck feel free to give me a shout

I just gave mine the same treatment and it's fine, just start from the middle and work out or in a clock wise motion, don't use anything to long like a breaker bar just a ratchet and your strength should be enough.

yep, to clarify when I said "small Breaker bar" I was thinking of my 12" 3/8" drive bar not my 36" 1/2" drive bar To be fair though, I just did mine with my 3/8" drive ratchetstationary stu wrote:I just gave mine the same treatment and it's fine, just start from the middle and work out or in a clock wise motion, don't use anything to long like a breaker bar just a ratchet and your strength should be enough.

Andy it's sometimes difficult to explain and try to say the correct tool, as someone with experience could use a bar without a problem as you get the feel of things, as long as the threads etc are clean you can do it no problemo.

This is what I don't like about typing, its far easier to explain things verballystationary stu wrote:Andy it's sometimes difficult to explain and try to say the correct tool, as someone with experience could use a bar without a problem as you get the feel of things, as long as the threads etc are clean you can do it no problemo.

Its polite to use your tool with restraint the first timelr90 wrote:Many thanks for all your replies , I will use my tool with some restraint !

you'll be fine, torque and sequence becomes much more critical the more cylinders sharing the same head, as there is a greater length able to warp, when its just one pot its far less an issue
If you get stuck, you know where we are, have you got some pic's of the engine so we can see what you've got so to speak
