That's a Bernard engine, they're French. Check out this one....

More pics of it here....

I don't think it's actually a twin cam, it's just got the pushrod tubes set at a funny angle to get the valves in the best position.

I don't think they're that rare either, or at least not in France, where they were made.

I love them though, I was very taken with the one I saw the other week (the one in that pic). If he wahts to sell it I would be interested, but not if it's thought to be rare & extra valuable.

They're a bit noisy when running, or that one I saw was. But I didn't care, it was so nice to look at (for me at least).

Thanks very much for your help, shame its not an early twin cam, will fire it up soon. I have all sorts of early engine parts and will keep posting for id. Thanks again.

I suppose they could be shaft driven cams, but I would think most likely to just be push-rods in the tubes.

A lovely piece of French engineering nonetheless, just a shame they didn't put their name on it anywhere (if the one in my pictures hadn't had an info sheet I would've been none the wiser too). Perhaps it wasn't Bernard's actual design, it could've been built under licence. If I see that one again I will ask the owner a few questions & report back on this thread. It was a local show, so the chances are I will see it again before the season is out.

If Nuts is not interested I would be , P.m me a price first though, as might be a non starter if its considered "rare" in the value !!

Email sent, we will have to see though, I've kind of spent out getting my car back on the road. Need to sell some more engines, like the Lister A & Stuart Turner, but neither are finished yet. I would love one of these Bernards though, so may just have to pull some strings & see what I can do. :chin: scratch
