Hi all, just bought a Enfield VS1 , picking it up tomorrow, already seen it running, starts easily with a paraffin soaked rag lit as they all do, runs sweet and a very nice original example, pictures tomorrow

Thanks Lewis and Kev, looking at it and the way it runs, I reckon it'll be a case of just cleaning up the castings and servicing it with new oil and filter and just make a new trolley for it , I would like to get a 1 3/4" shaft flat belt pulley for it if anyone has one.

it looks better than the one i was offered a few weeks back ,the dear old guy thought blasting at all over with cheap silver aerosol paint would make it more sellable "what a mess and a shame as it was in all the linkage and moving parts that were all now sticking Crying or Very sad
offered it to me for 60 but i dont want anymore at the min im trying to make some more room to move in the sheds:oops:

Well , here's the video, sorry forgot to show the oily lit rag starting, but tbh after an hour of standing and allowing to go cold again, it started without it at all so really pleased with that , one thing though that is really bothering me is the ultra sensitive fuel rack/governor positioning, the engine seems to be running at the correct rally speed then it just starts to go slower or start increasing revs !!! could be a worn rack or any number of things , have tried all positions on the assembly to no avail , was just wondering if by passing the governor and fitting a hand throttle would help , anyway, here's the vid, all advice on the hunting appreciated .... Er....All I see is some kid with a Mamod.

As for the "hunting" it could be fuel starvation causing this, if the filter is blocked then it will restrict the flow to the pump, or the pump is buggered, or the injector, or the linkage....

Rob, I do suspect the fuel system aswell, as the diesel in the tank is 20 years old lol , so a complete flush through and clean out of the entire fuel line tank to injector, i have also taken the governor inspection plate off tonight and all is well in there, the fuel rack is rather sloppy which might be part of the cause as well !! so might need a pump overhaul, but as for the running its a very pleasing noise it makes, sort of ol fashioned noise, nice and mechanical. I have added the right link now above I think .

20 year old diesel.... Yeah that probably isn't going to help much, although it should still be ok, flush the bugger out and see if that helps, if it doesn't then it will need more spanner work and possibly a pump rebuild.

Think your right Rob, the fuel needs dumping, and then start again, the injector cracks off lovely so no issues on that side , there is some sideways play in the fuel rack but at least its not sticking causing it, i've seen worse !! i'll try the fuel first and go from there, otherwise it runs nice, but a ball ache having to stay with it and keep fiddling with it to keep it running at a nice speed.
