Normally painted on outer side with a directional arrow I believe.

From new they were painted all over including the rim.

listers moto was if its metal and can be seen it was slapped over with what ever colour they had at the time of production

I polished the the "rim" to shiny steel and sprayed with 2K diamond clearcoat.......

looks amazing in the sunlight and when running... not very original, but i am sure if they had 2K clearcoat (oil and fuel resistant...) in 1945 then they would have used it...
