My current projects are a 1913 Hornsby L type 8HP and what I believe to be a 1922 Blackstone 5HP no trouble engine.

I used to know a guy with a big Hornsby like that (might have been bigger than that, not sure as I was smaller back then Embarassed ). Lovely engines Smile

Neither are runners. The Hornsby is nearly there, I am making a new fuel pump assembly for it as it was missing. It had been outside in a field for a few years. The Blackstone is just as I bought it a few months ago. I was told it was a runner but was dismantled to be painted. I'll do a complete strip down on it to make sure its ok. It all seems to be there. Want to get the Hornsby running first as it's 100 next year.

You've got your hands full to get that up and running for next season so fingers crossed and I wish you all the luck you need to get it done. You must have most of the parts for it I take? Now I'd love that blackie but don't think I'd ever be able to start it myself, I'm not that far from you so fingers crossed and our paths may craoss so I can see them in the flesh.

It's the weather thats delaying me as I can't get the engine in the garage at the moment. 2 reasons - the up and over door is too low, I have a joiner making me a bespoke set which will give me the height needed and there is a Rover 2200 in bits in there! I ordered the doors in August and I'm still waiting!

Got the pump machined up just need to make a mounting and the valves for it and finish the plumbing! Oh and go to work, mind I retire in July so will have time then!

Cick here to read about the restoration

Garage doors changed today so hope to get the Hornsby inside in the next week or so and start work on mounting the fuel pump. Pics will follow once work starts.

Well the Hornsby has been in the garage for a couple of months now and I have been working on the pump. It's now working, get a nice jet of paraffin into the hot bulb. Just a few more jobs to do, such as hot bulb cover, lubricators, a bit of plumbing and we are good to go.

The big end oiler was in many parts, past repair!

I have fabricated one from steel and it works!

I have now fitted the oiler that feeds the piston ad little end. I know its not the correct wine glass one but it will have to do for the time being.

Some good work there. I do like a bit of home fabrication (talking about the big end oiler), you could've got a foundry to cast you up a new one, but where's the fun in that?!

It will be a pleasure to see the old girl run again, & it looks like it won't be long now either. 👍

You've made good progress over the winter and not wasted your time, great news that you've managed to get the pump working again and you made a good job of the oiler plate, good to see you didn't give up like some and hope one day an oiler will be for sale somewhere.

Keep up the great work and look forward to maybe seeing a video one day.

Thanks Stu
Quite pleased the way the fuel pump has worked out considering it was missing and I have been working on drawings and guess work and what bits I had in the short ends bin!

Like Nutgone said I could have an oiler ring cast at a foundry but they would need beer tokens and did it for Yorks popular price!

Having to work this weekend so thats going to slow progress a little.

What's your plans with this one? I hope it doesn't distrack you from your other engines. Very Happy

It's a runner and it seems to behave well, so I'll just hook it to the compressor and use it. I need to be able to blow the air tanks up for starting the 120HP Marshall at Thwaite Mills.

Good luck and hope it works well once you've got it plumbed in. I take it this will be mounted on the trailer also. Could you put up another pic or two so we can see what it looks like when it's in place.

Bit more progress today. I fabricated a hot bulb cover out of 3mm plate. I think I am nearly ready for a trial run. Just need to work out how!

I also seemed to have acquired a dynamo. It must be from a coach, it ha LMS cast into it.
