When I bought my RH PB I was told a lead had come off in the Magneto.

So, during the complete overhaul - I've taken the Villiers Magnet off and started to get to work.

Although a battery across the primary and earth generates a spark, the Seconary Coil reads open circuit with my multimeter so I think I need a new one of them.

Anyway, the picture shows my real problem.

The primary lead is connected to one of the brass screws holding the fixed points plate.
The condenser lead is hanging in mid air.

I am at a loss to figure out where it actually goes.

Every diagram (or picture) I have found of the villiers magneto has the two leads joined together and connected to one of the brass screws holding the fixed points in place.

The trouble is - even now - the primary lead in the position it is in is connected to chasis - not the fixed points, the screws are isolated from the points plate.
So it I also attach the condenser lead to the coil lead they will both be connected to chasis - earth - and the points plate will be not connected to anything.

My simple grasp of electrics says that can't work.

So anyone out there know where I attach these?

if you send me a message with the pics on of the electrics
then i can see what style villiers set up you have and what goes were ect
if you multi meter the coil on 10,000 ish ohms setting
you should be going from coil core center bar to l/t out 200 -600
then center coil core to brass disc h/t out you should be geting the 600 -1100 ohms out
i have many villiers and parts ect if needed even new condensors coils ect size depending

You might be right about the age - the engine was built in 1936 - I am led to believe everything WAS original.

The amount of paint and the state of the gaskets have done nothing to deter that opinion

Thanks for the image -that is the exact model I have
However could you tell me if the coil and condenser cables are above or below the insulating ring which separates the screw from the mounting plate.
Could you also say if the cables are zero ohms to the chassis or the points plate (or both)
I am taking it that the two cables are connected together through the points plate?

Your help is Very Much appreciated
