Lister D - No 199778

Well it may only be a humble D, but I am rather proud of what has been achieved over the past 9 months, it was nice and sunny today so decided to pull it out and get some shots of it. It was a rather sad and rusty case when rescued back in Jan, and gave me some cold hours in the workshop getting it apart, snow was on the ground then.

It's also dedicated to my Mum who suddenly passed back in July, she never saw the fascination with a lump of rusting scrap but never failed to ask how its was doing, it will be called Maisie after her.

Going to have to sort something for it to do now, alternator or something like that.

Not so humble D. There is not another engine problem that you cannot encounter on a D. Fnatastic little engines, for starters at the hobby or oldtimers.

If you can strip rebuild a D you can do the same to 99% of all engines that will be encountered for most us.

Thinking it would be handy to set up as a permanent fixture to power a few things in the workshop , like my power hacksaw , and get a belt pillar drill i could run too .

I think that's a good idea apart from the smoke problem which could be easily sorted though with a long exhaust out the door or through the roof.

Billy is right, I have stripped and rebuilt many D types and they are more complex than (say) a Wolseley WD or Ruston PT but still easy to work on as there are only four main pieces (head, flywheel/crank assembly, timing case and crankcase) all of which can be worked on seperately without affecting the other parts.  I did a complete rebuild in pictures on the 'other' forum a few years ago and it surprised a few folk, open cranks are a piece of wee wee in comparison. Four D's in my collection now, all different haha!
