year made scott stationary Empty Scott SE 490

It is generally thought that the Scott type SE was introduced in or about 1930, and that production continued until at least 1939. Info is, not un-naturally, a bit hazy after that. No dated production records are known to exist for Scott stationary engines, but it would be reasonably safe to assume that No 490 was produced before WW2 began. I would say late 1930's. It may, of course have been sold during WW2, but who knows ?

The magneto used on the Scott SE is usually a Lucas N14.

Thought to be less than 600 made and about 25 survivors in preservation here in UK, so you are not going to trip over one of these very often. In the UK market with no magneto I would expect this engine to be worth £120-170. In Australia I would expect this to be a pretty rare engine. I don't know your market, but I expect it would be worth a lot more than in the UK, especially with its more famous motorcycle connections. The only way to find out would be to auction it Sad
