hi folks, just obtained Lister 'd' , runs ok , starts good, checked oil and ok, but the guy who I got it off says he puts oil in the water system to stop it going rusty, so got about 3 parts water and one part oil, so any thoughts on this as to oil in the water.

I sometimes put a few drops of oil in the hopper to help prevent rusting but tea bags are better as the tannin coats the metal better and can remove some of the rust over time.

If I have a tank cooled engine that is really scaled up I add caustic soda to the tank and give it a long run to help clear the crap out, just make sure you don't drain it in the lawn!

Given your liking for brewing up using the hopper and also the fact I saw someone at GDSF put a pack of hotdogs in their Petter M hopper I think we should start a new thread along the lines of " what have you cooked on/ in your engine" Smile

I fancy haggis, nepes and tatties!

Best

Hamish.

Hahahahah - just read the thread - eat your heart out Gordon Ramsey..........

That must of got any spectators wondering a) what the hell that smell is and b) are we at a rally or cooking demo!

Steaming a Christmas pud is my aim this year - with the mother in laws donated pud.....

happy days.

But that would make the water even more oily, once she boiled down,, is that good for the engine, after all the engine comes first?
