not my normal cup of tea going over to the dark side Laughing

Picked up this for quite cheap i would say

petter AS workhorse / saw engine 002_zps12496d7f

petter AS workhorse / saw engine 006_zps1e908b1d

Plan is to set it up on a small trolley so can hook it up to power hacksaw so both trolleys interlock into each other and keep connected when at home , but can take the saw away with me to rallies .

a video

I think it has a fuel starvation problem as a pain to start and runs extreamly slow as soonas you rev it up it dies .

any thoughts ?

LOL, don't like them myself Matt. Will be just right for a saw engine. Just a thought You could get a old table saw and via line shafting run them both? (table saw for your fire wood) also what does the AS stand for?

matt
looks the milatry issue colour
sounds like its the impulse knocking "i hope"
as you say sounds like fuel issue try the banjo filter at  carb end of fuel line , and see if theres a good flow from tank ,
then the lower jet on mag end , engine side may be adjuster type or a fixed with a brass plug  cover
but it maybe the one bolt manifolds gaskets first ,as they can be easy seal broken as you can twist the manifold as only a center stud Rolling Eyes
but if still so its flush out carb and see if the gasket is split around the  swirl pot/venturi ,as gasket is only 3mm thick at this point and is the usuall suspected on the 24t2 carbs
kev

take it back it look like a solex ummm ,never had a good one of them buggers yet
some one will tell you somthing usfull on these ,not me sorry

Didn't think there was a gasket between the top and bottom half, I know there isn't on the 26fv and there isn't on my A1.

there wont be on the solex 26fv thats the issue i find with them ,if theyve had water in them and frost the seam to belly out and then unusable afterwards Sad
i though at first it was the zenith 24t2 as i fitted to most and i fitted to the 3 ive had due to no look with the solexs even bought in "removed from runners "lol" ones
i have a couple in a corner of my shed some were, just not my taste in carb Smile

Yes kev thats just the impulse clicking mate .

With these impulse mags they should just require a flick to get them going and you have to wind over a bit thats why i think fuel .... If i get time tomorrow i will take the carb off and have a look .

well matt thats the times these engines was in my stable Smile
but yes sound was crap but its there to here mate
just remember impulse speed bad for these as oil feed tends not to pump at to low rpm mate
but i did play around from time to time with mine just to see how low they would go ,bloody slow i found Shocked

Came off this...

petter AS workhorse / saw engine Arunsawbench

That I used to cut my firewood for the last few years, I've "upgraded" to a Pazzie so should be cheaper to run, red diesel is 85ppl compared to petrol that is £Fooking expensive!

Was me, must be about 5 or 6 years ago now, was the costly sum of £94!

It has been a brilliant set, I gave it the "once over" this year, new bearings on the saw, ne pulleys as the one on the saw itself was rusted and pitted and a new set of belt, then fitted the Pazzie and it's back up and running, just got a few things to sort like the belt cover and engine cover as the crank on the paz is longer so the belt cover doesn't fit and the paz is taller so the engine cover doesn't fit.

looks a great little set up ...

Right i have been tinkering for a few hours and no such luck stripped the carb and cleaned jets with wire brush hair and squirted wd40 through the drillings and all is clear then a good blow through with the airline but its still not picking the fuel up to the plug Crying or Very sad

Whats next ?

remove the tappet cover and check the valve clearance ... if not that head off and re seat the valves but does have loads of compression .

Check the timing of the spark....

Mine was like that when I first got it, it was one tooth out on the timing.

I have found a TDC mart of the flywheel and another mark thats a sort of a z or a s so im guessing thats the spark mark .

how do you check with a impulse mag ?

Im guess is remove the plug and a thinpeice of paper inbetween the points and turn the flywheel back when the points grip the paper you know that is where they will be starting to open , so in theory the "z" should be at 12 oclock ?

It should "Clonk" when it's at (Or near as damm-it)TDC as the impulse retards the spark.

Ah well its clunking at the s mark , still doesnt explain why the fuel isn't getting to the plug ....

But i have found both carb half faces are not true so a mate is going to skim it for me at work .

Clunk is wrong then, before you go charging off with the carb just change your timing, you might find the engine is fine after that and the carbatootor doesn't need anything doing to it. I wouldn't skim it, just face it with a file or a sheet of glass and some grinding paste.

I have found the mag is clunking on the mark which is a M so a mag mark , but if Rob is correct what he saying the impulse retards the timing might have to time it to tdc .
