Hi, just acquired part restored 1950 Lister B hopper cooled engine. Flywheels off and no gib keys. Can anyone tell me if Lister A gib keys fit a B? Thanks, George.

Yes they will, A and B share the same bottom end.

Many thanks for the prompt reply. That is useful information. I think I need a new main bearing bush as there is movement when I move the shaft.

How much movement? If it isn't a great deal I'd leave it and get it up and running so you can enjoy it as an engine then keep an eye out for another bearing, if it's totally buggered then your choice is already made.

There is a slight up & down movement and I can hear it knock so I assumed that when running it might not sound great but as you say suck it and see until a bearing becomes available out of another engine being broken for spares. George.

If you have a knock that says big end to me, but A type Listers do sound a bit "knocky" when you turn them over slowly.

Yes they are a rather knocky engine as Rob says , dont be tempted to run them slowly .
