Hello ,

Merry Christmas to everyone.

I am new to this site , from Australia and after some help with a Ruston Hornsby PB 1 1/2.

I picked up this engine 15 years ago. It came as a box of parts. It was missing a few parts and sat under the bench as is . I eventually managed to purchase the parts needed from the UK and had them sent to Australia by a very helpful person. It then sat under the bench for another 12 months and now I am putting it together .

I can not work out where the oil baffle plate fits. It is mounted by 1 bolt but which one and how does it fit? The instruction book doesn't show the true picture.
Everything else is ok (up until I get to the villers magneto)

Can anyone tell me ?

Thankyou

Paul

Hi,
I had another fiddle this morning and I think I have sorted it out. It appears to sit vertical in front of the timing gears stopping the oil splash towards the throttle fork that hooks onto the fuel butterfly. Had to adjust several times to stop it rubbing on the timing gears.
Thankyou to those who replied.

That sounds about right. I have stripped and rebuilt a few of these over the years but the last one was a long time ago and my mind is a but beer filled at the moment to remember...

Hi,
Finally put the ruston together today.
I had a play with the Villiers magneto and have managed to get some spark out of it but not enough for it to fire. The kids were helping and I have not made up a crank handle yet so I grabbed the kids Yamaha 80  motorbike and used the rear tyre to turn the flywheel. The kids thought it was fun but no life in the Ruston Pb  even with a splash of fuel in the carb.

Does anyone have some coil readings using a multimeter and a way of checking the condenser?
I do have another similar sized Villiers magneto off a Allen sythe and a smaller Villiers with a similar point /condenser assembly for parts but need a way of checking them.

Thanks
Paul
