pillow block bearings on trolley? Empty pillow block bearings on trolley?

Post by callum12 Mon Feb 10 2014, 20:47

Hi all,
I've been getting some stuff together to make new trolley for my Lister D and i've come across some pillow block bearings. (see link)     http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UCP-Metric-Self-Lube-Bearing-Pillow-Blocks-Normal-Duty-/320695884156?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item4aaaf6d97c
I know that trollies really don't need any bearings as they only move a few meters at a time. But i think painted in a nice Mid Brunswick green it would really make the trolley look the part. especially because i have four spoked wheels so they would be very visible. It will also make the trolley more a part of the display rather than just an aid to help move it about. ( although some trollies are very nice indeed  Very Happy )
I was wondering if anyone has done this before? If not does anyone know whether they would be up to the weight and the thumping of the piston?

thanks,
callum Very Happy

Yeah pushing a Lister with your little finger! nothing a pair of chocks can't sort out when on the rally field though.
do you recon "normal duty" will be okay for a Lister D? I would think so as a D probably weighs about 160KG with oil, water and a tank of fuel, so thats only 40KG per pillow block. But there is also the constant thump of the piston to consider.
I think i will use pillow blocks on my trolley, it'll finish it off nicely i think.

They will certainly look good. Shame that sort of thing is so expensive. After you pay £40 to £80 for four spoked wheels, two lumps of decent wood and all the hardware the trolley can end up costing more than the "D" you built it for.

I see what you mean about them being pricey, by if you think about it, there cast iron and the bearings are quite good according to other people so they should last a lifetime.

I just took delivery of the bearings today and they look good, they are the self aligning ones so they won't bind if I'm out a bit.
