Dilema lister DK or D
Help wanted , I have a standard Lister D and i have decided to get another , my decision is do i got another standard or a DK numbered correctly etc so a genuine DK with a flat top piston not a conversion , both clockwise which helps as my spare mag is that rotation , but im basing it on the theory if both the same old simple D i could rob one to keep the other going if that even was the case , it would be nice to have a DK as its different but i don't have a couple of spare piston as i do for a standard D , may not sound a big deal but are the DK's that more interesting really or shall i go for the cheaper slightly older model round top rocker cover than my flat top . Any serious comments very welcome thanks gerry

All down to what you want. DK can be found easy enough, flat top pistons are available new so that isn't a problem, D spares are not exactly thin on the ground, go for a reverse rotation and get another mag for a spare....

Unless you are fixated on another Lister D/DK I'd go for something different for your collection.

Thanks , Yes it is a DK or a D , im leaning toward the older than my 1953 D , keep it simple . i have a DK atomizer box so could always convert if ever the mood takes me . I did think more would of said jump at the DK as they maybe rare or just more fun / interesting and as that has not happened is swaying me to the D .

Re: Dilema lister DK or D
I have a lister dk but its ran as a lister d. the previous owner found it with the vaporiser ect but it has a crowned piston. it was used with a milking machine so we reckon it had a crowned piston because of the light and short duty it did.
i don't run it as a dk because if you run it with the vaporiser and on petrol for a long time it can make the petrol vaporise and it can cause problems. so for me its easier to run it on petrol as a D.
I'd go for a DK personally as their more unique, but you do have to worry about TVO and in todays world i think it could get a bit pricey. more de-cokes are needed if it's ran under no/little load regularly.
hope this helps your decision in some way.

Re: Dilema lister DK or D
Sounds like yours is a conversion, this was a proper kit offered by Lister where 2 head gaskets are fitted to a crowned piston thereby lowering the compression without changing the piston, then a vaporizer was fitted and the starting tank, so it might be a D converted to a DK...

Re: Dilema lister DK or D
Well i went with the DK , all genuine as far as is known , its running on petrol at the min as i need to put the small tank on as he only just aquired it , will it matter if i ran it on just petrol ? . i ended up paying £10 more for the DK plus a extended mag cover and fuel filter thrown in , i think i did the better deal than just another D as was sugested so thanks for that as impleased that i did now do so , ive also just picked up a lister water pump so very happy at the moment .
