lister d very loud

Post by marknva on Tue Mar 25 2014, 21:23

I know this seems daft. after seeing lister d's running and seeing them on youtube they all seem within reason pretty quite but mine seems pretty loud on tick over and under load. Is it just my lister or is there something wrong

cheers mark

Does it have a wide exhaust or a Thin one, my one had a thin one but it was also loud, so I switch it for a Wide one.

here you are pasted the pic across for you mate

https://i57.servimg.com/u/f57/18/77/26/06/17819411.jpg

that looks to be the correct exhurst system for the 1930s to 1960s lister d specs

sounding like the spark is to late to me ,so recheaque your timing mate
thanks kev

Find the lightning flash on the flywheel, put this at the top, undo the points cover and then slacken the bottom sprocket nut, pop that sprocket off, turn the mag in the right direction until the points just open, tighten the nut and bingo.

there should be a spark/lightening strike on the flywheel ,remove the rocker cover and rotate until the 2 camshaft arms/rockers are both free of pressure with a little gap as in the setting of the valve gaps
and the flywheel should be with make at top dead center of vertical engine
and then remove the cover off your magneto
and lossen slide bolts from under side of mag ,then in direction of engine  rotation turn the mag  to thepoint were the points should just be wide open or just starting to open slightly
depending in wear on chain ,other way if pulley on mag will come frre ,is loosen the pulley center nut pop pulley loose and then rotate mag from flat screwdriver slot in points end of mag center shaft

don't forget though, cameras can lie, especially microphones, built-in mics don't replicate sound volume very well. yours might not be that loud, but still redo valve timing.
