Could any one recommend a place in the northwest where I could have one of my lister d's a rebore? And any idea of the cost?
This is my second engine which I bought just for the spares but depending on cost's etc I might refurbish it.

Regards

i would imagine a rebore would be more than the engine is worth , be more sensible to look out for another block .

Has yours be bored out before ? should be markings on piston if it has or a tag on the block .

No its not been bored out before. It's getting an over sized piston i think might be impossible. It would be a shame to have to scrap the block. Does anybody have any more ideas?

There are several Lister D blocks on ebay for about £30, must be cheaper than a rebore any day.

I would of liked to have kept the engine as one, rather than scraping it. I bought the engine for spares originally, it would of been nice to get it running again. I will have to have a re think, whilst I am finishing my other D.

One of my D Types has a brass plate on the crankcase stating that it had been re-bored to +60 thou, however when I stripped it I found that it had later had a new liner fitted to put it back to standard again and that was worn again!  Must have been worked hard.  Oversize pistons are available, +40 and +60 are fairly common, however it may be better to have a liner fitted and use the original piston?  Expect to pay around £100 though.

Maybe a set of Clupet rings would restore compression as they are intended for worn bores and would be OK for a lightly loaded rally engine, a cheaper and easier option? Clupet Piston Ring & Gauge Co

Thanks Pete, I could may give the clupet rings a try, I need to clean it up ( drain oil etc) and take it to a machine shop to see if the bore can be cleaned up. It has suffered badly from corrosion, hence the piston seize in the bore.

Right, I have found a D block in the shed. Looks to be OK in the bore.
At £10 bound to be cheaper than a rebore or fancy rings.
