my engine is a JOHN DEERE 1 1/2 hp enclosed crank, hit & miss 1921
this engine was a basket case when it came in from America,.......on its original trolley though.
it came off the same farm as JONESEYS 3 engines...AMANCO CHORE BOY + 2MORE JOHN DEERES all on original trolleys (a must for JONESEY) the farmer had bought all 4 engines new,the AMANCO was his first, then later he purchase the 3 john Deere's.....
i think it was his son who had sold them to JONESEYS contact in the USA.dont know if the father was still alive??? no doubt CHRIS will tell us
im not sure if CHRIS has still got both the JOHN DEERES,hes definitely got one, there was a fella after the other, dont know if he was a messer?
getting back to mine..i stripped it down to a bare block, had it all shot blasted by our friend TOMMY.....CHRIS did one of his while i was doing mine,so there was a lot of engine parts scattered about CHRISES garage....
it came back from shot blasting, had three coats of primer, each coat was left to go off.
the trolley was next, that two was shot blasted and painted with three coats of primer.
while that was drying/hardening off, it was time to sort out the piston rings etc,
all the bits had been ordered from the states (all of which were on the shelf over there) unlike your ENGLISH engines.
so its had new piston rings, valves,(all ground in)new fuel tank, fuel pipe and tap,new water tap,the mag has been striped and rebuilt.
the igniter was rebuilt by my good freind MR JONES,
then it was time for the 4 top coats, leaving each coat for 2weeks to harden off
the trolley had to have new wood,as the wood was shot.
the engine came over all on its trolley that it came out of the factory on.
once this was done....it was time to start the rebuild, with the help of MR JONESES garage + his extensive knowledge it was all put back together.it went back together fairly straight forward
then it was time to add the fuel, then turn the Handel,on the second turn it fired up, and sputtered out.
tried it again and off she went like a clock.........well happy.....

i would like to take this opportunity to thank MR JONES for all his help, the use of his large garage, his knowledge and his time,of which he gave for free, hes a real freind.....THANKS AGAIN MR JONES........

MIKE D a happy JOHN DEERE owner.....

keep an eye for my new engine arriving today..........pics soon
