Lister D Loose Timing Chain
Hey Guys,
Today I got my Lister D to run again but it is still stalling but not as much but when the engine is running, it misfires a bit, I did notice the timing chain is loose and I can move it about with my fingers, is this why it is misfiring and if so how do I tighten the chain?
Many Thanks
Luke

Hi Luke, You do need a bit of slack in the timing chain, you can adjust the tension in the chain by putting shims between the mag and the mounting plate, The shims can be home made or can be picked up on Ebay.

hello,
metal shims are what you need. in the past I have used steel washers to take up the slack in the timing chain.
don't have the chain too tight or you will put wear on the bearings in the mag, a little bit of movement is a good thing.
also the misfire could be caused by a failing coil, a faulty condenser or faulty/wrongly set points.
fingers crossed its just a loose chain.
