Lister D jumps around
Hi I am new to stationary engines and would appreciate some help please. My Lister D will not run smoothly it vibrates and moves around, I have set the timing to 2" BTD & 1"BTD which did help, I have no lightening mark on the flywheel. It runs best with the mixture wheel set at a quarter turn and I have reseated the valves now out of ideas!
Thanks in advance, Paul.

No I can actually get it running nice and smooth then the next time I start it it will jump about. I have just had it running good for twenty minutes but when I take the plug out it is quite wet, not sure if it's oil or petrol

Hi Paul,
Just a thought but is the engine securely bolted down eg to its trolley?
All the best,
Kev.

Hi Kev, yes I've made a trolley and it's secure. I have a felling that it's something to do with the fuel mixture because when it runs uneven you can eventually get it to calm down if you persist with the fuel mixture, a very slight movement of the wheel can make a large difference in how it runs. Anything past a quarter makes it run ritch

Re: Lister D jumps around
Hi Paul,
Just another thought - have you tried adjusting the air valve? Once you have found the best position for your engine don't forget to fix it with the lock nut - I failed to do this and the valve vibrated to a different position which markedly affected the running!

No I had not thought of that, I assume you turn the thread in or out to achieve the correct mix?

Re: Lister D jumps around
Yes. I had to experiment with mine, screwing it first progressively in then out until I found the best position for my engine. Its worth a try.
Good luck!
