Viiliers MK10 - How to remove magneto flywheel
Is there just the one screw that I have to remove in order to take off the magneto flywheel to get at the points and coil - and can I leave the fan attached.
Also, what is the best way to determine if the coil is in good shape? Visually it looks fine. I have multimeter to check resistance for example.

Re: Viiliers MK10 - How to remove magneto flywheel
nut in center is the one.
use a good fitting socket and a hammer, wack it the anticlockwise direction, then it will go easy for a couple of turns then it goes tight again, whack it again anticlockwise, and then the flywheel will start to pull from off the tappered crank shaft end, then you can get to the points coil,
but to replace the condensor if needed ,you need to remove all the backplate of electrics and then you can remove the points box to find condensor in the back of points aloy box
coil is best tested with a ohms meter on the point low tension lead end at coil and then the HT lead lung in back of coilplate
SET METER TO 20K ohms and post the 2 x average readings from LT and HT

Re: Viiliers MK10 - How to remove magneto flywheel
Hi Kev
I'm a little confused :-(
"whack it the normal direction" Do you mean anticlockwise to loosen?
"a couple turns the tight again" - you've lost me there.
Are you saying it's a left hand thread?
Any idea what the resistance should be on low tension and high tensions windings?
I'm a little confused :-(

Hi Kev,
Many thanks for amendments - thought you were getting technical with a newbie :-)
Will give it a go in the next few days after another dose of plus gas.

Re: Viiliers MK10 - How to remove magneto flywheel
Hi Kev,
Good whack did the job - thanks.
Checked coil with multimeter - at least I hope I did - I'm presuming that earth return is the body of the engine. LT was zero ohms - short circuit? HT was not measurable - Open circuit?, plus the coil itself feels a little squishy on one side. I guessing its' goosed. Any ideas where I can get a replacement?
One other mystery you may be able to solve. There is a lead from LT side to a screw named 'cut out terminal' in the manual. What's that about? If that's to stop the engine what is the brass strip to short the spark plug for?
PS Have a question regarding timing - should I start a new thread?
