I have a Reference Manual for JAP "stationary" Industrial Engines, but it covers 4 stroke Models 4, 5 & 6.  I can't remember the 2 stroke model numbers.  Is yours 2 stroke?

The pattern of numbers looks similar to what is stamped in the top of the crankcase on the above 4 strokes.  If they are similar, I think they are 3 = model, D = 1934, the rest I'm not sure about, maybe sub model and/or serial number.  I'd be interested in what ever anyone else can add.

hi there
heres your  3d/702/1 broke down for you

3 = model
D = YEAR  either 1934 , 1954 (but the year production runs from I.E , sept 1953 to sept 1954, the letters  always runs  in 20 yrs cycles
and im thinking that there  production was later than 1934 .
702 = engine number
1 = the spec or factory mods so this is standard
