Re: Australian Villiers
Hi,
The HS denotes High Speed - 1.95b.h.p at 3,400 rpm.
From Villiers brochure:
"In most respects there engines are similar to their counterparts but certain changes are made to the carburetters, air cleaners and governor settings. An oil bath air filter is fitted as standard on all H.S. Models"
Hope that helps.
I have the "Villiers MK10 and 12 Operators Manual and Spares List July 1957" if you need one.

OK and thanks for the info
I do have a copy of that manual , thanks anyway .
The mower was running when I purchased it for 15 bucks , but I think the magneto has died , the spark has disappeared
My other engine is a WW2 Canadian made chorehorse . A 12v wireless battery charger engine made by Canadian outboard & Marine . It is basically a Johnson pre war engine . I bought this motor new in the box years ago , with its can of oil and tools and spares , unused . I believe BSA made a post war copy of this engine in the UK .
One of the three in the middle pic is a UK made engine . Can anyone spot it ?

Hi,
If you don't want to spend big bucks on a new magneto coil, have a look at this excellent How-to by Matt (nutgone)
http://www.stationaryengineforum.net/t6890-coil-ignition-without-a-battery?highlight=without+magneto
I tried it and with a little care and patience rewinding the coil you can have it working in short order. You can see mine running here, prior to refitting the rest of the gubins:
