Model steam engines, boats, and beggaring about with lathes

Post by Oilynick on Sun Feb 15 2015, 19:20

Hi Folks, here is a few photos of some of my machinations with steam engines and model boats, the two were made for each other and have given me many years of pleasure.....
Victoria, kit built boat, 3.5inch horizontal boiler at 40 psi twin cylinder oscillating engine....

African Queen, scratch built on GRP hull, brass, oak, beech and mahogany, no plywood anywhere. 3.5 inch vertical boiler, twin cylinder slide valve engine, Hackworth valve gear....

African Queen plant in development stages showing feed water system....

Setting up new workshop in Fort Perch Rock. ( it ain't that tidy now!)

And finally, latest engine build, a large chunky 5/8th bore x 1 inch stroke oscillating engine.....

Loads of photos of lathe repairs/restorations if anyone is interested. Hope you all have enjoyed this little snapshot of my other interests.....

I'm trying to think of something nice to say but I'm way too jealous Smile
I'd dearly love to get my hands on a lathe/mill combo but I'd struggle to justify it with her indoors. Sigh.

African Queen is a delight to see - not only one of my favorite boats and film combinations but a stunning model - very nice work Squire!

And yes - now thinking how to sell my kids to buy a lathe...

best

Hamish

Hamish, do you want to take my lad and make up a job lot?
