I have a restored lister d that wont seem to run properly. When you try to start it sometimes it wont fire or anything . sometimes itwill fire once and wont pick up, but if it does pick up it sounds as though its running laboured or struggling, only way it will run well is if you close fuel tap by a quarter turn. very strange i know but does anyone have any ideas? it is low tank suction carburettor model. any help much appreciated. thanks in advance.

H, Is your needle valve set correctly? Engine may be getting too much fuel.

Hi billy, I have tried it in all sorts of positions but doesnt help much. overall it does seem that it is being overfuelled somehow though.

Do you have a float chamber on the engine or is it earlier? If the engine is running happily with a quarter turn of the fuel tap it maybe it is getting too much fuel with the tap open more. Without a float chamber to control the amount of fuel it will be sucking into the engine what is available to it.

Have you tried the engine with a float chamber to see if it makes a difference?

not yet but i may do out of interest. I have thought about swapping the fuel pipe to a thinner one too.
