Petter a1 valve clearance problems
Hey, I am trying to adjust the valves on my Petter A1 an I am having a bit of a problem. When i go to adjust the valves I untighten the nuts get it set right then tighten them up but even when tightened i can with my fingers turn both bolts and it adjusts the clearance. Why is this? I presumed once both nuts are tightened together they will stay there and you wouldn't be able to move them up or down. Thanks

Re: Petter a1 valve clearance problems
Not sure exactly what your problem is but the bolts themselves shouldn't turn if the locknuts are tightened, however the cam followers that they screw into will be free to rotate/move up and down which is normal and how the valves are operated?

When you say nuts does that mean you have 2 nuts on the bolt coming out of the cam follower, on my A1 I only have one nut
you have to lock the nut down onto the follower. you adjust the bolt to correct clearance and then hold the follower with a spanner and
lock the nut down onto the follower the bolt should not be able to move after this, if you have a second nut tighten that down onto the first nut, i hope I have explained this clear enough for you.

Thats what I am trying to understand, the actual nuts when tightened together are still free to move up and down the thread when thy are tightened together.

Have you tried locking one nut tight against the follower? this should keep it all ok. I can't see why you have two nuts on each adjuster though.

Re: Petter a1 valve clearance problems
I have just looked at the workshop manual and it shows the adjuster locked to the follower by a single locknut.
