Lister SR1

Post by Dieseljohnyboy on Mon Aug 03 2015, 23:10

Hi
Just took the head off my 1967 lister SR1 and noticed it had no shims, just the head gasket. It was running ok, but was due for a de-coke etc. Any comments from fellow lister diesel owners? In the parts and operators manual it shows the shims below the head gasket, i.e on top of the barrel, but in the written instructions it clearly states that shims should go above the head gasket i.e nearest the cylinder head. I'm confused???

Cheers, John

Hi John,

Had the same dilemma on my LR1, I then thought that the parts list manual is for reference only and decided to go
by the operators manual and it runs fine, just make sure the gap between barrel are correct as per manual.
One tip when putting back together, when you go to adjust decompresser lever adjust in small amounts until
you end up with no compression, not like I did and went to far and the piston touched the valve, luckily I was turning
over by hand and noticed before trying to starting it. Hope this helps.

Regards

Richard
