Lister D Lubrication question Empty Lister D Lubrication question

Post by northernboy Wed Feb 02 2022, 17:53

I have almost completed rebuilding my Lister D and have a question about filling with oil and lubrication.

I understand the engine takes about 2 pints of SAE 30 that is pored in via the oil filler / check until level with the lower lip.

The governor is lubricated via a wick in a small flip top filler that just need to be kept topped up ( I need to find or make a wick somehow)

So my question is, how much oil goes in the 'gearbox' that can be filled or topped up from a bung marked 'OIL'?

If you fill the engine with oil via the valve and rocker chamber the timing case will be filled to the correct level automatically, then you shouldn't need to bother with the 'oil' plug. Take it steady though as sometimes 2 pints is a little too much and you could end up with a rustproof floor!

Pete.

My floor has been rustproofed before:) Thanks - for the advice Yes, I guess filling via the rocker cover makes sense and just watch the level via the oil filler. Thanks
