Alco/JAP 3 push rod cover

Post by Locknut on Sat Jul 16 2016, 07:42

Hi Guys,

I am looking for  the oval cylindrical cover/tube that surrounds the push rods for my Alco featherweight ( the actual engine is a JAP3 with overhead valves).
I have tried to show its possition as best I can in the photo, you can make out the remains of an oval gasket at the base of the push rods and a location bolt hole.

Does anyone have a spare one knocking arround that they would be prepared to part with please?
Thank you.
All the best,
Kev.

Hi Guys,
I have had no luck in finding a replacement push rod tube/cover so am going to have to make one.
Can anyone kindly let me know the actual dimensions of the tube/cover that I need eg height, length and width of the oval section.
Thanks.
All the best,
Kev.

I can send you some pictures of my one with measurements if that would help.

Here you go I only had a half day at school today so I was able to get them to you sooner than I thought.  Hope they're useful. Oh and also what magneto does your engine have?

Cheers Oliver

Hi Oliver,
Thank you ever so much for that - thats brill.
Mine has a Wico A mag on it --- which is causing me a bit of a problem at the mo' in that it gives a good spark off the engine but none when on the engine - all very frustrating!
All the best,
Kev.

Your welcome if it gets another one going it's worth it.  Could you tell me the thickness of the plate that joins the mag to the engine as I need to fabricate one.  Also is the mag making metal to metal contact when it's on the engine as if it isn't it will be an open circuit and so you won't get a spark.

Hi Oliver,
I will need to check that on the engine before letting you know - but that wont be for a few days now I am afraid as I am busy taking a front porch down and then building a replacement.

Hi Oliver,
The plate joining the mag to the engine on my machine is 1/8" thick.I will try and get a picture of it later to put on here.
My mag is a Wico type A896BZ.
Hope that helps.
All the best,
Kev.

Hi Oliver,
Glad that helps - good luck in finding a suitable mag and in the making of the mag plate.
You might want to consider making a specific 'want' request for a mag in the 'wanted' section of this forum - you just never know what might turn up.
All the best,
Kev.

Yes I will do. However I can't just yet as I don't have the money available for one available to me at the moment. Due to there being other things which require my money (Especially the classic mini fund)

Cheers Oliver
