JAP 4/3 1965 on a Ransomes mower.

Post by Aki74 on Mon Jul 18 2016, 18:28

Hello

Greetings from Finland. I just became a proud owner of a Ransomes mk1 Multimower. It has a JAP 4/3 engine from 1965 on it. After some googling I found out that JAP became Villiers already 1963. So did they still produce JAP for Ransomes after that? Oval on top cover says 1965, magneto is stamped with 11 66. Engine runs, bit on rich and with some smoke from the bypass. It seemed a bit better after an hour, maby the piston rings started to become loose after ten years of outside storage.
Some pictures will be uploaded later.

Regards

Aki

Hi Aki and welcome to the forum. Where in Finland are you living? I spent many happy days in Helsinki - a beautiful city.

Yes, Villiers continued to produce various JAP engines (including the 4/3) after they bought the JAP company. They were produced for anybody that wanted them, not just Ransomes. I think production of some JAP engines by Villiers continued well into the 1970s.
