Photos to follow of my lister generator which sat in the nettles for a number of years.

The engine runs now, although I was a total beginner and had to look up the starting process on YouTube. It needs a new manifold as the exhaust side is half missing and held together with hose clips, and has no silencer, so its noisier than a tank regiment on manoeuvres.

I will treat it to these parts very soon.
I know even less about wiring, and after brushing all the spiders away inside the top box all I can say is every wire appears to go somewhere, and is attached to something. The only problem is there's no ac at all!

There is a chocolate coloured plastic terminal thing (sorry to use technical terminology) on the floor of the box which has wires going in, but none coming out. Someone has scratched + and - on it.

In my simple mind I think of connecting the chocolate terminal to a socket, plugging in the lights and living happily ever after.
But I'm also worried about my wife finding my charred corpse still holding the wires, killed by my own generator.

I will upload pictures when I'm allowed, I found an email after I wrote this saying that new members can't put up pictures for a bit. Slightly embarrassing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and feel free to laugh at my unbelievable lack of knowledge!
Mark

I don't know if I did right but today I threw caution to the wind and connected wires to the little chocolate coloured connector on the floor of the box.
I had seen a wiring diagram which looks like the chocolate block connector was ac live and neutral out, so I did it and connected to a socket. I plugged in a lamp, but it didn't work.
I read about using a drill to re-excite (if that's a word) a generator that had been stood for a time, so I tried it. Before I did it the drill was dead. Afterwards when I pulled the trigger it was definitely trying to move, making a buzzing noise like it was being held back.
I wonder if I needed to spin the drill faster, using a cordless drill maybe, or am I on completely the wrong track?
