Lister D - seized big end bearing.

Post by kennill on Sat Aug 20 2016, 19:49

After clouting the piston for a while to free it I stripped down the engine to find that the problem ws actually a seized big end bush!

Never come cross this but as a result I cannot remove the crankshaft.

With extreme effort I can actually get it to move a little, but not enough to be useful.

I have tried clouting the bearing to no avail and have now given up for fear of bending the con rod - or worse!

Where do I go from here?

I suppose I could always cut the conrod in half and then replace it, as well as all the bearings.

Expert suggestions, please.

ensure that the dipper is removed - use a blowtorch to heat the bottom of the conrod until it expands enough to release the bearing - slide the crankshaft out - remove piston and conrod through the top of the cylinder Smile

Thanks for that.

I have ordered a spare con rod so when that comes I will have a go.
