4.5hp Bradford Amanco
Hi, I am having trouble with my Bradford Amanco engine, it starts fairly easily but I can't get it to run steadily, it will run ok for a short while then start to slow down with a lot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust then start running ok again, after it has been running for a while I have noticed one or two sparks coming out of the exhaust, I have stripped and cleaned the carb and cleaned out the fuel tank, I am running it on petrol, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bernard.

Re: 4.5hp Bradford Amanco
I'm not an expert on these engines however it sounds like your engine may need to be de-carbonised as those "sparks" that you can see are actually just bits of burning carbon.this con contribute to bad/uneven running due to it gumming up valves etc. Also you may want to try leaning the engine out a bit because running rich contributes to excessive carbon buildup and also a loss of power hence which can make it hard for an engine to sustain itself. Once again I'm no expert but I hope this helps.
Good luck
