4.5hp Bradford Amanco engine

Post by steamman on Wed Jan 11 2017, 16:40

Hi, I am back again with a problem with my 4.5hp Bradford Amanco engine, I have had the head off and removed a lot of carbon, ground the valves in and skimmed the needle valves in the carb. which were out of round, I reassembled the engine and fired it up, it started easily but ran like a hit and miss engine, I noticed that the inlet valve didn't have a lot of movement on it, it just seemed to vibrate, could somebody give me some advice please as I am at a loss to know what to do next.
Thanks, Bernard

Hi Bernard,i'm no expert but it seems kind of like the cylinder isn't getting enough fuel or something.I have heard of people saying that the valve springs on their engines were too strong so the valves couldn't open enough. This might not be the case with your engine though.Another thing that would stop the valve from opening enough could be that the engine hasn't enough compression so the valve couldn't pull the intake valve in enough.Just something to keep in mind.Regards,Eamonn

Hi, thanks for all your advice, I increased the speed of the engine and it has cured the problem.
