Hi there just joined

Hi there I live in Paignton Devon and have just joined having got hold of a 1943 Briggs and Stratton ZZ.
This is my first foray into stationary engines however I have restored several post war motorcycles over the years, I also got half way through a 1966 Lotus Elan until circumstances forced me to sell it and most of my bikes to fund a new venture.
I'm a retired toolmaker with a fairly well equiped workshop so I love tinkering in the garage and usually have a project or two on the go.
The ZZ isnt the most glamorous of engines I know but after much research I did find it was off of a Trusty tractor.
Interestingly well to me at any rate during the war there was a saying "Dig for Victory" as at the outbreak of war 50% of the food consumed in the UK was imported so playing fields, lawns, sports fields etc were given over to food and vegetable production.
Because of this the manufacturers of the Trusty tractor who used JAP, Brough and Norton engines just couldnt get enough so a few Briggs and Stratton ones were used so my engine would almost certainly have got here by Atlantic convoy.
When I got it the HT coil was trashed so I cut the old coil off and fitted a much newer type of coil to the laminated armature, works a treat and the engine runs surprisingly well.
I am currently de rusting things prior to painting, the engine is to be stripped and refurbished where necessary.
Once I really get going I will probably be pestering you all for information so I will make my apologies now

Hi Mike,,

How on earth did you find this forum??
The site is still alive on forum motion but the old admins let the domain name expire. I'm considering taking over but have to wait for a six month cooling off period unless old admins agree to hand over - can't understand why they won't Question
Will get in touch with forum motion in the next few days.
Keep watching for further news.

Hi Paul, I kinda stumbled on it and as there don't seem to be that many engine forums in the UK so saw it as a must to join.
I didn't realise there were problems with the site, it would be a shame if it was wound up so I wish you luck in your endeavours to revitalise it.
Please keep us all informed on progress.
