Thank you for excepting me to the forum.  My name is CHRIS . I am a farmer in SOUTH AFRICA . I  refurbished  a Petter A1 and found the project very fulfilling. This machine is in use  as a standby  electricity plant on the farm. I recently obtain an Induna  6 bhp  650rpm with serial  no.. 26166. Question. IS THE INDUNA THE SAME AS THE LISTER CS 1/6

Good evening and welcome, the only thing I can confirm is that Induna is a tribal councillor or headman in your country and you also have an engineering company of the same name, do you have a picture.

Hi Chris, welcome aboard, maybe post a photo of your Induna and hopefully someone will recognise it?

Is that a solenoid siting next to the governor, it appears to be connected underneath, if it is then chances are it was part of a generating set INDUNA badge engineered. The serial no appears Lister and could be 1937 - 1938.

The selenoid you refer to is actually a diesel vaporiser the goes to the injector . I presume it is for easy starting in cold weather conditions.
You are correct. it is a generator set , it drives a Hoffberg 3.75 kva generator single phase 220v ac. I am trying to determine the origin this engine , the specs and the manufacturer.

The diesel pump which is connected to the governor goes to the injector, the injector vapourises the oil in the cylinder.
I increased your picture so that I could just see your pump and the solenoid type device on the left of it which would be used to either open the pump rack to maximum when starting or close it when stopping when a light etc is switched on or off for automatic starting. go to the end of the crank shaft either end or the flywheels and find the engines serial no, if they match the spec plate then its likely a Lister made CS6/1 diesel made in the UK and INDUNA put there own plate on it.

Could this be a Lister CS clone made in India ??

There is an Induna diesel running on Youtube, and also one with a Hoffberg generator (in SA).

If it is the serial no matches the lister system and date.

There is also an Induna plant hire company in SA.

Details of Alan Hoffmann and his involvement with Hoffberg alternators.
Also a link to the State Trading Co in India (which was established in 1956).
All post WW2.

This museum in SA has an Induna engine, might be worth contacting them for more info.

Thanks for the generous response to me induna lister . I will keep you posted on the development of this project. quite interesting the museum in Sutterhein, was not aware of the existence of the museum . I will most definitely pay them a visit when ever I go in that direction, some 900 km away from where I live.

I believe all the lister CS records were destroyed in a fire. I was told that when asking about my own CS date.
(apologies if you already knew)
